A handmade project to celebrate 20 years of our mission in action, show solidarity with fellow members and supporters and sustain us as positive changemakers.
2026 marks 20 years of NACCOM in action. To celebrate this anniversary and everything we have achieved together we are working with Sarah P Corbett, an award-winning activist, Ashoka Fellow, author and founder of the global Craftivist Collective. Sarah is running a craftivism workshop at our conference in Leeds on 25 March 2026. Her form of gentle craftivism uses slow, thoughtful handicraft (like hand-embroidery and papercrafts) as a compassionate, thoughtful tool to influence hearts, minds, policies and laws.
NACCOM is very much more than the sum of its parts. As a network supporting and empowering people in the asylum and migration system to avoid destitution, and challenging harmful government policy, we are far stronger together, and our craftivism project we hope will be a powerful visual representation of the interconnectedness of us all, as pieces of the NACCOM jigsaw puzzle.
So, what piece of the puzzle are you?
We are inviting our members and supporters to add gentle craftivism to their toolkit of hope, solidarity and encouragement, through crafting a unique jigsaw piece to show your commitment to being part of a community of NACCOM changemakers.
Using hand-sized, colourful, fabric jigsaw pieces we’re encouraging everyone to hand-stitch or decorate unique messages of hope, solidarity and welcome onto the fabric puzzle pieces. We would then love it if you could contribute your piece to the NACCOM jigsaw puzzle by taking a photo of it and sending it to [email protected]. Even better if you and/or your team want to be in the photo too! See examples/photo of a handmade piece. Feel free to display the original piece(s) in your place of work.
Crafterthought questions To help you create your unique message, have a think about the following questions:
- What about being part of the NACCOM network inspires you?
- What are the benefits of being part of the NACCOM community for you?
- What examples of collective action have you seen in the past within your own organisation and NACCOM that have helped you to keep going?
