Since September and the refugee crisis hitting Europe, there has been a upsurge in the offers of accommodation in spare rooms across the UK. Although many of these offers were specifically for Syrians, and often in rural areas where there are no asylum seekers, nevertheless it has boosted existing hosting schemes and led to new ones starting.
Large numbers of up to 140 attended meetings for prospective hosts in London, Middlesbrough, Oxford and Newcastle. This has led to substantial growth in the London Hosting Project and the brand new Host Oxford scheme, and the potential for several new schemes in 2016.
