The Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration is calling for evidence on the Home Office’s use of sanctions and penalties.

The inspection will look at a wide range of sanctions and penalties, including those administered directly by the Home Office and those administered on their behalf/under their direction.

Submitting evidence to these inspections not only directly contributes to the eventual report but also builds an evidence base of issues consistently raised by the sector.

We would like to submit a strong body of evidence from NACCOM and continue to build upon our evidence-based advocacy work. We anticipate that NACCOM’s submission will focus on the effects of “refusal or revocation of bank account, NHS, DWP or HMRC benefits due to immigration status” and how this directly leads to homelessness. NACCOM will use a mixture of evidence from previous NACCOM reports and our annual members’ survey.

You can see the full call for evidence here, with a full list of all of the sanctions and penalties that the inspector will be assessing. The deadline for submitting evidence is 5th January 2020.

If you have any evidence that you would like to be included in the NACCOM submission (this can be case studies, data or professional reflections), please do get in touch with Jessie Seal, Policy and Campaigns Coordinator.
