Newcastle based organisation Action Foundation has been developing its hosting scheme and they are now recruiting their first volunteer hosts, with an Open Evening on Tuesday 26th July.
The scheme will be helping destitute refused asylum seekers in the Tyne and Wear area. Further information can be found at: www.actionfoundation.org.uk/projects_hosting.html
Vicki Harris, the hosting coordinator, says: ‘We are very excited to be at this stage with Action Hosting. I have had support and help from so many other NACCOM members, who have advised me on policy and procedures for our scheme. I am very grateful to everyone that has helped guide me. Now we have started to work with our potential hosts it feels the scheme has properly started to take shape. We shall soon be delivering our host training sessions and will then be ready to place our first guests. We can then really start to help those that are in urgent need of support, and give them somewhere safe to stay.’
