The new Immigration Bill is currently being debated. As I write it has passed the first stage. Only 18 MPs had the decency to vote against it.
To me it appears to be driven by the desire to win back votes from UKIP. Some think it racist. At the very least it is mean-spirited and nasty, and designed to make all foreigners feel unwelcome – unless they have money and / or belong to the ‘brightest and best’, so that Britain can get richer.
Unfortunately it is likely to result in further misery for our NACCOM residents. The Home Office Fact Sheets can be found here. The BBC has produced a summary. Open Democracy’s take on the bill can be found here. One of the best summaries of what it all means for NACCOM members comes from the NCADC blog.
