NACCOM is recruiting for a part-time Community Researcher Facilitator, to help facilitate our newly-launched Community Researcher group of people with lived experience of destitution.
Responsible to: NACCOM’s Director
Number of days: 1.5 day per week for a minimum of 6 months. This can be worked flexibly; currently the Community Researcher Group meets on a Friday morning.
Salary: £29,000 to 32,800 pro rata (+ 6% pension) or freelance fee to be negotiated
Contract: Minimum six months
Location: Home based/online with potential for limited national travel to NACCOM and partner events dependent on national COVID guidelines and wishes of the Community Researcher Group.
The Community Researcher Facilitator role offers an unique opportunity to work with a newly formed group of experts by experience and to be part of NACCOM’s friendly team, who are committed to ending migrant destitution.
The purpose of this work is to facilitate a key area of NACCOM’s Expert by Experience work – the Community Researcher group, which was launched in Spring 2021. Community Researchers are NACCOM volunteers who participate in, design and lead NACCOM’s research work. As a group, the Community Researchers discuss the areas of destitution, homelessness, and migration that they wish to collectively research and NACCOM supports the group to undertake ethical, safe and impactful research. The work of the group provides a space for people with lived experience of immigration control to research, analyse and present solutions to destitution in our communities.
This work has grown out of NACCOM’s Community Reporter work (read an evaluation of the project here) and reflects NACCOM’s commitment to sharing knowledge and power. The consultant will assist the group in planning and undertaking research sessions. They will ensure that the group is supported to do this ethically and impactfully. The consultant will work with the NACCOM team to ensure that there are clear routes for the research findings and that they are presented directly to decision makers.
This is a part-time role for 1 ½ days a week. The role may suit someone working part-time already or doing sessional/freelance work. We are open to either an employed or self-employed arrangement. NACCOM would particularly welcome hearing from candidates who have lived experience of destitution in the immigration system for this role.
- Be committed to working with and supporting people with lived experience in developing their research, communication and facilitation skills
- Have excellent on-line facilitation skills and community or peer research experience
- Support NACCOM’s volunteer Community Researchers in developing their skills and identifying and delivering on research priorities
- Be willing to get involved with NACCOM’s work supporting its members to deliver pathways out of destitution and in particular to work with Community Researchers in our partnership with Homeless Link and funders Lloyds Bank Foundation on their ‘Local solutions to migrant homelessness project’
