Emmaus North East joined NACCOM in 2019 as an Associate Member, in support of NACCOM’s aims.
Emmaus North East provides accommodation to people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion. One of 29 communities across the UK, Emmaus North East provides a home for as long as is needed, meaningful work experience in one of their social enterprises, funded training and an opportunity for the formerly homeless people they support to get back on their feet.
Situated in South Shields, the community has the capacity to support up to 15 formerly homeless people, known within Emmaus as companions. Companions work in the community’s social enterprises, which range from house clearances, stock collection, merchandising in one of the charity shops or making bespoke items out of recycled wood in their workshop.
