BEACON (Bradford Ecumenical Asylum Concern)

BEACON’s Hosting Project recruits, trains and supports volunteer hosts to provide a home to people who are seeking asylum who have had a negative decision on a claim and are at risk of destitution. Hosting provides guests with a secure, supportive environment in which they have the opportunity to gather fresh evidence in order to submit a new asylum claim.
BEACON’s other projects are:
McKenzie Friends
A legal support project for people seeking asylum without legal representation. Our volunteers facilitate access to legal advice, carry out research and to provide support to access legal representation. We also accompany people without legal representation to appeal hearings in court, offering moral support, taking notes, acting as a witness to the proceedings and helping to organise papers.
An English conversation and activities group offering a fun, friendly and safe space for people wishing to meet new people and practise their English conversational skills. The class is open to all levels and focuses on conversation, building confidence and social contact, with frequent workshops and trips to local places of interest.
