The Jesuit Refugee Service in the UK is recruiting for a new post of Refugee Activity Co-ordinator.

The Refugee Activity Co-ordinator is a new part-time post (1.5 days a week) on a 12-month contract, reporting to the Destitution Services Manager, joining a small tightly knit and diverse team at the JRS UK offices in Wapping. JRS UK has been working with destitute asylum seekers for many years and would now like to expand the services and activities we provide to those we serve. The Refugee Activity Co-ordinator will be responsible for the development and coordination of a new pilot project aimed at offering one or two participatory refugee-led activities for those made destitute by the asylum process; building on our existing activities of drama, Gospel Choir and Photography workshops. The Refugee Activity Co-ordinator will be expected to create connections with specialist tutors for the activities, build links within the community, as well as oversee volunteers with specific skills interested in developing particular activities with refugees.

The Refugee Activity Co-ordinator will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating the progress of activities, in conjunction with the Destitution Services Manager, and help ensure the sustainability of the project going forward as appropriate, with the aim of refugees leading the activities themselves in the future. The Refugee Activity Co-ordinator will work closely with our Day Centre Officer to support and coordinate volunteers attached to the refugee-led activities. There will be an opportunity to explore project ideas and design activities creatively in collaboration with refugees.

The post holder will need to have outstanding people skills, including personal resilience, empathy and confidence to build and sustain relationships. They will have a willingness to work collaboratively and flexibly, be comfortable in facilitating peer sessions and be able to inspire confidence and leadership in others. This role would suit someone with experience of working in a highly relational way with those who have complex needs; experience of working with volunteers; experience of developing facilitating projects and activities; experience of carrying out a range of project administration tasks, and enthusiasm for working in a small faith-based organisation.

Salary: £6,000 pro rata (£20K pa full time equivalent)

Contract: Part time, 11.25 hours/week; fixed term contract 12 months, potentially renewable.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead ASSIST’s experienced and diverse volunteer teams in delivering high quality support to refused destitute asylum seekers. The postholder will join a small leadership team, collectively holding responsibility for the work of ASSIST.

You will be experienced in managing or delivering support and advocacy services. You will be committed to the wellbeing of asylum seekers and to the values of solidarity and respect which underpin ASSIST’s work. You will be confident in enabling volunteers to work effectively with skill and compassion. You will thrive on teamwork in a dynamic and challenging environment, and will be ready to bring your skills to the leadership structures in a vibrant, learning organisation.

You will be an excellent communicator, committed to forging positive relationships with partners, and ready to hold responsibility confidently and transparently.

Action Foundation is recruiting a Support Worker (fixed term to December 2020)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Support Worker for Action Foundation’s supported housing projects. The charity was established in 2005 to assist asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants in Tyne and Wear – we now have 20 properties supporting up to 73 clients. With new projects starting in 2019 we need to add to the team working to overcome homelessness, isolation, exclusion and poverty. You will manage a caseload helping your clients access the support they require. You will have a strong working knowledge of the welfare benefits system and experience working with vulnerable adults. It is an exciting time at Action Foundation and your involvement could help shape the service in the future.

Praxis Community Projects is recruiting a Group Worker

We are looking for an engaging community worker to deliver both new and existing groups at Praxis. You will work closely with our groupwork coordinator, volunteers and Praxis group members to plan, deliver and evaluate workshops and activities, with a commitment to co-production, peer-led community development and our core Praxis values. This is an exciting time to join a growing service that makes up a key element of the organisation’s holistic support model.

The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of both individual and structural issues faced by migrants in the UK, and will have extensive experience leading innovative community projects, ideally with migrants. You will be both reflective and enthusiastic in developing your practise as well as able to step into a busy community centre with confidence, integrity and sound judgement.
